Yes, I’m Still Being Sued.

Folks may have seen this mentioned elsewhere, but it bears noting here on my website: I’m still being sued for defamation regarding my #MeToo Arisia blog post of 2018.

I’m told that linking to my #MeToo Arisia blog post itself could constitute a re-assertion of the items within the blog post, and that could be problematic while being sued for asserting those facts and opinions. You can find it very easily if you’ve found this page, though, I’m sure.

The lawsuit filed against me, however, and all relevant public court filings, are publicly-available documents on the internet. You can find that info at the MA court docket website by searching the MA Supreme Court jurisdiction for my name or the plaintiff’s name. (I think this is true for any civil suit not involving minors, although I’m not certain.) Someone also put that lawsuit filing online in a WordPress site here.

While I’m linking to websites, this is the legal fund GoFundMe page that’s organized by a longtime friend, helping me pay for my lawyer. Any contributions to that GFM are really, really, really appreciated.

The lawsuit against me has been in progress for about 2.5 years, now, and I’m still somewhat intimidated and awed to read that GFM page. It’s a testament to community support, and also a symptom of how broken the system is, that it takes a village to pay for a legal defense. I know a lot of friends and a lot of strangers have donated to the GFM to help pay for my lawyer costs, and I am grateful to each of you for doing what you can, when you can, and also I hope you are making sure you are able to meet your own needs.

Some of us are here, passing around the same $20 to those who need it most in the moment. I also see a lot of this in the mutual aid organizations I volunteer for, particularly Mutual Aid Medford and Somerville. I wish we lived in a world where people had our basic needs provided to us. Please don’t jeopardize your own health or well-being by donating to the GFM. I want all of us to be okay, including you.

Anyway, I wanted to post this note. Thank you to everyone who’s reading this, everyone who’s donated, everyone who’s said kind words of support. It really does mean the world, and helps counteract the negative sides of all of this.

Here. Have a picture of my kitten, Carol Danvers, and my current craft project in progress. 🙂

My black-and-white kitten (mostly black body with white on her face near her nose and muzzle, plus a black little nose), Carol Danvers, on top of a quilt in progress. The quilt is of various purple, blue, yellow, and white Stars of David inside blocks. It is unfinished, and in this picture it's draped across the couch and a set of wooden stairs.
